Roxane gay books imprint how to#
Simon and Schuster / Frederick M Brown/Getty Images Acclaimed novelist and essayist Roxane Gay might term herself a bad feminist, but when it comes to registering dissent, she knows exactly how to be heard. This past January, writer and cultural critic Roxane Gay made the decision to pull her upcoming book How to be Heard from publishing with TED Books. "It has been a lifelong dream to have a literary imprint of my own where I could publish great books and have the support of a storied publishing house behind me.” Roxane Gay's book, slated for 2018, was to be published via a partnership between TED and Simon & Schuster. “I love having a hand in bringing brilliant writing into the world, and over the past 15 or so years, I’ve done that in various editorial capacities that have been incredibly gratifying," Gay said in a statement Wednesday. Get ready to bust out that manuscript you’ve been hesitant about sharing with anyone, and prepare to shoot your shot with Roxane Gay Books she wants to hear your story. Gay has worked for years with Grove, which in 2014 released her debut novel “An Untamed State.” She also has long been interested in promoting other writers, whether through her Medium magazine Gay or through her Audacious Book Club. The news of Gay’s imprint is especially important for new and upcoming writers who’ve had no luck breaking into the largely white, male-dominated world of publishing. The author of such works as “Bad Feminist” and “Hunger” is teaming up with Grove Atlantic on Roxane Gay Books, which will publish three books a year.
